
Hannah Teddy Schachter is a doctoral student in the Department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, under the supervision of Prof. Elisheva Baumgarten. Having studied at various institutions across the United States, Germany, Sweden, and Israel, her research explores how Jews engaged with Christian monarchies and courtly culture in medieval Ashkenaz, with particular emphasis on royal women. Her doctoral project is a case study on the relationships between queens and Jews, entitled “Blanche of Castile, Queen of France (r.1223-1252), and the Jews,” and her publications include the forthcoming “As They Sing, Dance, and Make Merry: Song and Dance in the Medieval Jewish-Christian Encounter, 1100-1450” (Viator, 2023). She is a recipient of the Rotenstreich Scholarship for Doctoral Students by the Israel Council for Higher Education.
